Debbie started with 1,4GROUP in November 2015. She moved to Idaho in 2014 from Houston, Texas, where she worked for IBM Corporation, BMC Software, and Sam Houston State University. She brings 30 years of Executive Assistant experience with her.
Michael Bates joined 1,4GROUP, Inc. in December of 2009. He is the Operations Manager and is responsible for overseeing the warehouse, company safety program, real estate, aircraft department, and DiChlor Laboratory.
Michael is a native Idahoan who was raised on family farms. He is a graduate of Boise State University and has a distinguished military career, retiring as a senior officer/commander. He spent 26 years in aircraft maintenance/management and completed his career as the 124th Wing Vice Commander in the Idaho Air National Guard. He worked as a building construction project manager for three years before coming to 1,4GROUP. Michael says, “At 1,4GROUP, I have the best of both worlds, my love for aviation and strong roots in agriculture.”
Michael has been married to his wife, Quinn, for 41 years and they have 2 grown sons, Phil and Conner. Michael is a licensed private pilot and enjoys the challenges and views that flying offers. He loves flying with his commercial pilot son, Phil, and family in his spare time. He also enjoys camping with his family throughout Idaho and the northwest during the summer, and spoiling his granddaughter.
John supports the Midwest and Eastern U.S. potato markets to provide technical and marketing expertise for the region. He has a degree in Agronomy with an emphasis in crop protection from North Dakota State University. For the past 30 years John has directed sales, product development, and field research on a number of crops and seed products. In these capacities, he worked one-on-one with growers and processors in the agricultural industry to provide maximum revenue generation for the products they produce. John is originally from a sugar beet and small grains farm near Oslo, MN and currently resides in Fargo, ND with is wife Claire.
Dave has been the Laboratory Manager at DiChlor Analytical Laboratories since June 2008. He was born in Virginia, raised in the Midwest, and went to college in Montana where he received his B.S. in Chemistry and his M.S. in Geochemistry from the University of Montana – Montana Tech.
Dave worked at Lockheed-Martin as a Materials and Processes Engineer for eight years, specializing in ion chromatography and atomic spectroscopy. He worked as an Environmental Chemist in atomic spectroscopy at Analytical Laboratories, Inc. for four years. Prior to working at DiChlor, Dave worked for 10 years at Micron as a Chemist doing ultra-trace metals analysis using inductively coupled plasma/mass spectroscopy and also as a Surface Scientist specializing in Auger electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.
Dave likes to travel and enjoys camping and hiking with his dog Bailey.
Jennifer started with 1,4GROUP in 2015, taking on a small role in the family business. After first being brought on to develop the new website, her job has evolved into handling small projects for the marketing and administrative departments. Before joining 1,4GROUP she worked for 4 years at the Saint Alphonsus Garrity clinic as a Customer Service Rep and 3 years as an administrative assistant for a financial planner. Throughout the years she has also coached high school volleyball and softball at her alma mater – Nampa Christian High School. Jennifer graduated from Nampa Christian in 2001 and then completed an Associates Degree at Stevens-Henager in 2010.
Jennifer married her high school sweetheart Andrew Bills and together they have 2 kids – Josh and Lexi. In her free time she enjoys playing in the local volleyball and softball leagues. As a family they enjoy movies, video games, going shooting, and are taking up ATV riding.
Markus started working a 1,4GROUP in September of 2016. He is responsible for packaging and warehouse shipments. Markus was born and raised near Pocatello, ID, where he worked on on the family farm in Mud Lake, Idaho. From there, he went to Lamb Weston and was a forklift driver. He has over 7 years of experience in the shipping business.
Markus is an avid skier, golfer, and enjoys being outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
Cindy has worked with 1,4GROUP, Inc and DiChlor Analytical Laboratories since 2006. She is responsible for Order Processing, Accounts Receivable, IT, Shipping, and Logistics. In her life outside of work, Cindy enjoys creating jewelry, stained glass pieces, and handwork. Cindy and her husband enjoy camping and spending time with their family.
John began his working career in 1965 under his father, Darol, the founder and previous owner of Industrial Ventilation (IVI). John’s job responsibilities ranged from sweeping floors to servicing ventilation and refrigeration equipment. In 1979, John left to spend several years overseas as a pilot with Mission Aviation Fellowship.
In 1984, John returned to Idaho and IVI as a salesman for ventilation and refrigeration equipment for potato and onion storages. John’s territory spanned from New Mexico to Colorado to Minnesota. During this time, John was involved in developing CIPC application technologies for potato sprout inhibition.
In the coming years, John handed off part of his sales territory in order to assume the responsibility of Sales Manager. Several years after becoming Sales Manager, John assumed the responsibility of President of the company. In 1993, John sold his interest in IVI and left to pursue new opportunities in sprout control. John currently holds the position of General Manager of 1,4GROUP and is a co-owner of the company.
John holds several FAA ratings, including: Mechanic (airframe and power plant), and Pilot (commercial, instrument, flight instructor, and instrument instructor). He also has an AA in Aerospace Technologies from Portland Community College.
Mike began his career with the Campbell Soup Company, spending time in both Grocery and Food Service sales. Mike’s next career path led him to Ore-Ida Foods selling french fries to major customers. After 7 profitable years, he moved to Head of Sales for Heinz’s Weight Watchers frozen foods. Mike has also spent time in the frozen meat business and the gourmet coffee industry.
Mike has been with 1,4GROUP for 15 years. He has helped build the business by managing our key accounts with a high degree of professionalism. Mike has been in the potato industry most of his business life and has a great deal of knowledge of the many facets of our industry. Mike works closely with Industrial Ventilation covering most of the Western United States.
Dr. Bernhard FringsBusiness Development Manager - Europe
Bernhard has been a good friend to DormFresh for well over 15 years and we now have the privilege of working with a highly esteemed and respected colleague within the European potato industry.
Bernhard has worked on 1,4SIGHT® projects over the years and is very familiar with the benefits of using 1,4SIGHT® as a dormancy enhancer. Bernhard joins an extended team at DormFresh, offering knowledgeable support in the storage and post-harvest treatment of potatoes.
He has a Ph.D. from the University of Bonn in Plant Protection and Entomology, combined with a wealth of experience from within the Agro Chemical marketplace where he has been a key player for over 25 years.
Eva joined 1,4GROUP in September of 2011. She is responsible for Payroll, Purchasing, and Inventory Control. She brings a broad range of experience to the accounting department with over 20 years in bookkeeping, including 10 years running a business with her husband. She has a graduation certificate from Pildamm Gymnasium, Malmo, Sweden.
In their spare time, Eva and her family enjoy playing ice hockey, camping, mountain biking, and gardening. She is active in 4-H with her daughter and volunteers at various events. Also, she is a member of the Sons of Norway and the Scandinavian Society of Boise to help preserve her Swedish heritage.
Joseph Isaac MillerWarehouse Supervisor/Fabrication & Design
Joseph joined 1,4GROUP, Inc. in January of 2008 and was hired on as a full-time warehouse man and maintenance guru. He works together with the sales team to provide our customers with the best quality fogging machines in the industry. He oversees the warehouse team, packaging and shipping, as well as the E-Fresh equipment.
He has 8 years experience in construction rebuilding McDonald’s all across the northwest as well as structural repair and mold treatment. Joseph also worked as in inventory control specialist in receiving at Walmart for 4 years. He specializes in building apartment maintenance.
Joseph is married to his lovely wife Mary Grace and has 2 daughters. They enjoy camping, scenic driving, and target shooting. Most of all, as a family, they enjoy serving the community and people close to them.
Bill started in the sprout inhibitor application industry quite by accident. After college, he worked for a tree care company and sprout inhibitor applications was their fall area of business. That was before the VFD was introduced into the application process in Canada. He continued on in the industry for 14 years, quickly moving to doing applications, then technical training for applicators, then to managing the entire application process, and finally to owning his own sprout inhibitor application company. His application experience has allowed him to do applications in all 3 of the Prairie Provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba). Bill enjoys all the dynamics and challenges of the sprout inhibiting industry.
Jose joined 1,4GROUP Mexico in 2013 as a Technical Representative in Northwest Mexico. Before that, he worked with one of Mexico’s biggest potato grower for almost 10 years.
Jose was born and raised in Los Mochis, Mexico’s biggest potato producing area. He went to Technologico de Monterrey where he earned his degree in Agricultural Administration in 1984. In 1986 he earned a degree in Potato Seed Production at Mexico National Ag Research Center in Toluca.
Jose has been in the Mexican potato industry for over 30 years and this has helped him increase his sales each year. He believes that the grower’s confidence in the company’s products and services is the key to a successful business.
Adam was hired as a summer intern at 1,4GROUP in May of 2017. By September he was brought on as a full-time research associate under Dr. Addie Waxman. Adam’s main responsibility is to look over, assist, and conduct research experiments with our product. These experiments can take him anywhere from our facility laboratory to storages and fields all across the Pacific Northwest.
Adam was born in Holcomb, Kansas, and moved to Idaho when he was 6 years old. He was raised in Nampa and graduated from Nampa High School as Valedictorian in 2013. He continued his education at the University of Idaho and earned his B.S. in Plant Biotechnology.
In the summer, Adam enjoys exploring Idaho’s beautiful outdoors with hiking and camping. In the winter months, he can be found hunting or enjoying a great book.
Paulo started working at 1,4GROUP in 2009 as the Operations Manager for Dataplex in El Salvador. In 2012, he moved to Mexico to run 1,4GROUP Agricola de Mexico and has been working to position the company as part of the supply chain in the potato industry. As an Industrial Engineer, Paulo enjoys developing new processes and new ways to make things work.
Paulo has been married to his wife Natalia for 16 years and enjoys spending time with his 2 daughters, Abril and Paula Maria. He also enjoys listening to music, reading, playing squash, and likes to stay informed about new gadgets and technology.
Crawford joined DormFresh, Ltd. as the Global Sales Manager in October 2012. Crawford is Scottish and grew up in the heart of the chemical Industry in Grangemouth, Scotland where he started his career as a trainee engineer working with companies like ICI and Zeneca in the early 1980’s.
With over thirty years experience in the Agro-Chemical Industry, Crawford brings a broad knowledge base from engineering and production management, sales, market development, and business development. He has worked primarily across Europe, but also has experience in Japan, China, and of course the USA. Over the past five years, Crawford has been closely involved in the manufacture and marketing of products used globally in the potato industry.
Kelly was born and raised in southern Idaho and received her B.S. in Microbiology from University of Idaho. She spent a year working as a chemist and lab manager at Blue Sky Biodiesel, working closely with the team to implement changes in the production based on laboratory analysis (mainly from gas chromatography, pH, and flash-points). Prior to starting work as a lab analyst at DiChlor, she worked in the microbiology field for MSI in Jerome, Idaho as a research scientist. Her time at MSI was spent developing the M-Vac, a new technology for sampling for surface bacteria and DNA. Kelly started at DiChlor in November 2010 as a laboratory analyst.
Though Kelly still has a keen interest in microbiology, she will admit that there are some perks to working in a chemistry lab…with the smell of the lab topping the list! Kelly has been married to her husband, Stehvn, for 5 years and they have two little girls that keeps them on their toes! They enjoy photography and traveling just about anywhere, though these days the majority of their travels take them to Florida, Canada, and Colorado to visit family.
Although Jeanette is not a native of Idaho, she has lived here for most of her adult life. After graduating from the University of Illinois, she moved first to northern Idaho and then to Boise.
Over 13 years ago, she started working at 1,4GROUP, Inc. with regulatory becoming her main responsibilities over nine years ago. Jeanette is a member of BPIA as well as being on their Regulatory Committee and State Issue Committee.
When she is not in the office, Jeanette can be found backpacking or hiking in the Idaho mountains, desert, or along the Greenbelt in town.
Shane started working at 1,4GROUP as an intern in 2015 in the R&D department, helping with the sampling of study materials and building/maintenance of study machinery. He quickly moved into the role of an assistant at DiChlor Labs and was responsible for prepping samples and running fry color and texture analysis. Shane also became a part of the warehouse team in 2016 and is responsible for overall building maintenance.
He is a native to the Boise area, and has spent time studying in Colorado and at Boise State. When he’s finished, he will have 4 degrees and a minor. Shane also manages rental properties for his family and invests in real estate.
He is currently engaged and taking on 2 three-year-old boys. He spends a great deal of time out in the mountains camping, hunting, fishing, cycling, and just exploring with his Australian Shepard.
Brian is the Controller of 1,4GROUP, Inc. and oversees the company’s global finance and tax structure, banking relations, manages the company’s international and domestic cash, as well as foreign exchange, GAAP reporting requirements, information systems, and human resources. Brian joined 1,4GROUP, Inc. in October 2004.
With over 22 years of experience in accounting, Brian brings a broad range of experience in financial reporting, retail accounting, construction accounting, real estate accounting, accounting software implementation, cash management, inventory flow, corporate and individual tax, and benefit plan administration.
Brian has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Boise State University, a Master’s of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Phoenix, and he is currently working towards his CPA.
Addie Waxman is a Senior Scientist at 1,4GROUP, where she has worked for 7 years. She conducts research and experiments on the impact of various storage chemicals upon potatoes. Her work takes her from the potato fields to potato storage facilities to processing plants. Dr. Waxman was an environmental science instructor at the University of Phoenix for 11 years and earned the “Best Instructor Award” in 2008. Prior to that position, she was a food scientist at J. R. Simplot Company for 8 years where she worked on developing the MicroMagic line, Simplot’s fruit and vegetable blends, and worked with McDonald’s French fry and hash brown production. Dr. Waxman also worked for a subsidiary of Pillsbury in their agricultural yeast products and development team as an intern during her college years.
Dr. Waxman earned a B.S. in biology, minor in chemistry, and an emphasis in microbiology and a M.S. in food science and dairy science at Virginia Tech. Her thesis and published work was entitled “The Inhibition of Pseudomonas through the use of Genetically Modified Lactic Acid Bacteria”. Dr. Waxman also earned a PhD in Plant Sciences from the University of Idaho in 2017. Her dissertation title is “The Effect of Harvest Timing and Storage Duration upon End-Product Quality of French Fries”.
Currently, Addie serves on the Board of Trustees for the Bio-Pesticide Industry Alliance and is Co-Chair of the Planning Committee. She serves as Secretary on the Marketing and Utilization Committee for the Potato Association of America. Addie Waxman is also a member of the Board of Directors at Ahavath Beth Israel, is chairperson of the security committee, and once served as Vice President. Dr. Waxman earned the Idaho Business Review “Woman of the Year” award in 2009 for her extensive volunteer efforts in the Treasure Valley.
Growing up here in Southern Idaho, Sharon began her Banking and Accounting career over 30 years ago. As a graduate of Boise State, she first began her career in Corporate Banking with First Security Bank as a teller and as her career progressed over the years, she later transitioned to local community bank Syringa Bank as Senior Vice President of Operations in charge of product implementation and training, Bank Secrecy Act, Cash Management, ACH, Audit and Compliance. Although Banking is still very close to her heart, she also had a strong passion for Accounting and later moved into Public Accounting where she has spent the last several years before joining 1,4GROUP, Inc. as Accounts Payable.
Sharon has been married to her husband Steve for 24 years and together they have three children. Kayla, Chris and Cassie. They also have five young grandchildren. Life gets a bit crazy in the Wells home!
While away from work, Sharon can be found traveling, snowmobiling, gardening, and kayaking.
Brian grew up in the heart of the southern Idaho agricultural community in Twin Falls. Upon graduation from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science Degree, he went to work in the wholesale nursery industry for 14 years. Nearly half of that time was spent in the production side of the business honing his technical skills.
Brian joined 1,4GROUP, Inc. in December 2015 as a Technical Sales Representative offering knowledgeable support in the storage and post-harvest treatment of potatoes. Brian’s depth in customer relations and sales management as a Sales Manager have been a great benefit to 1,4GROUP. Brian supports the Western U.S. market, concentrating his efforts in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, and Texas.
Brian also works closely with the 1,4GROUP R & D department to facilitate studies between growers, packing sheds, and major potato processing companies in the United States.
Brian and his wife Amanda have 2 wonderful children, Timothy and Elaina. There’s never a dull moment in the house he says! Golfing, gardening, landscaping, and camping are a few of the activities that he enjoys with his family.
